Method
Cocktail
Chill mug (optional)
Place a copper mule mug or highball glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes before making the drink to help keep it icy cold. Alternatively, fill the mug with ice while you prepare the other ingredients and discard excess meltwater.
Build the cocktail
Pour 2 oz vodka over the ice, then add 0.5 oz fresh lime juice. Freshly squeezed lime gives the best bright flavor—about half a lime.
Top with ginger beer
Slowly pour 4 oz chilled ginger beer into the mug. Pouring gently preserves carbonation and creates a slight froth on top.
Stir gently
Give the drink 1–2 gentle stirrings with a bar spoon to integrate the vodka, lime and ginger beer without flattening the fizz.
Garnish and serve
Garnish with a lime wheel or wedge on the rim and, if desired, a sprig of fresh mint. Serve immediately while fizzy and cold.
Notes
Adjust vodka and ginger beer to taste; for a less boozy mule, reduce vodka to 1.5 oz or increase ginger beer. Use a spicy ginger beer for more heat, or a milder brand for a sweeter profile.
