Garnish & Glass Prep
Prepare glass
Chill a rocks or coupe glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice while you prepare the cocktail. If rimming, rub the cut lime wedge around the glass lip, then dip the rim into a shallow plate of coarse or smoked sea salt to coat. Discard used lime wedge.
Cocktail
Add 2 oz single barrel tequila, 0.75 oz Cardinal Valencia, 0.75 oz fresh lime juice, and 0.5 oz agave nectar into a cocktail shaker.
Fill the shaker with ice (about 1 cup), secure the lid, and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until the shaker is cold and slightly frosted. This lightly chills and dilutes the drink to balance the tequila's intensity.
Strain the cocktail through a fine strainer (or the shaker strainer) into the prepared chilled glass. Serve over fresh ice if using a rocks glass or neat in a coupe.
Garnish with a lime wheel or wedge on the rim. Optionally express the oils of a lime peel over the surface for added aroma.
