Cocktail
Method
Cocktail
Chill glass
Place an old-fashioned glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the drink to chill it.
Measure spirits and sweetener
Using a jigger, pour 1.5 oz Bulleit Bourbon and 0.75 oz Don Julio Añejo into a mixing glass or a cocktail shaker without ice.
Add bitters and agave
Add 2 dashes of Angostura bitters and 0.25 oz (a barspoon) of light agave nectar to the mixing glass.
Stir with ice
Fill the mixing glass with large ice cubes. Stir gently but thoroughly for 20–30 seconds (about 15–20 full rotations) until the mixture is well chilled and slightly diluted — this softens the agave and integrates the spirits.
Prepare glass
Discard ice/water from the chilled old-fashioned glass. Place a single large ice cube or ice sphere in the glass.
Express orange oil & garnish
Take the orange peel and hold it 2–3 inches above the drink, with the outside facing down. Give it a firm snap to express the oils across the surface of the cocktail, then quickly rub the peel's exterior around the glass rim and drop it into the drink as garnish.
Final touch
Optionally add one more light dash of Angostura on top for aromatics. Serve immediately.
