Base Tea

Method

Prepare Water & Teaware

1

Heat water

Pour 3 cups (about 720 ml) of fresh cold water into a kettle and bring it to a gentle boil. For the best flavor with green tea, bring to just below a rolling boil (~185°F / 85°C) if you have a thermometer; otherwise, bring to a boil and let sit 60 seconds to cool slightly.

2

Warm the teapot or mug by rinsing it with a little hot water, then discard that water. This helps maintain proper steeping temperature.

Steep Tea & Herbs

3

Combine teas

Place 1 tsp green tea leaves (or 1 tea bag), 1 tsp dried chamomile flowers, and the fresh mint leaves into an infuser or directly into the teapot/mug. If using loose ingredients without an infuser, you'll strain after steeping.

4

Steep

Pour the hot water (just off boil) over the tea and herbs. Cover and steep for 3 minutes for a lighter green tea profile, or up to 4 minutes if you prefer stronger chamomile and mint presence. Avoid steeping green tea longer than 4 minutes to prevent bitterness.

5

Taste after 3 minutes. If the flavor is balanced (mild green tea with calming chamomile and fresh mint), proceed to strain. If you prefer a stronger herbal note, steep up to 4 minutes total.

6

Strain

Remove the infuser or strain the tea into a serving pot or directly into cups to remove loose leaves and herbs.

Finish & Serve

7

Sweeten to taste with about 1 tsp honey if desired and stir to dissolve. Add a lemon slice to brighten the flavor if you like citrus. For a breakfast-style tea, stir in 2 tablespoons milk (dairy or plant-based) and taste; adjust sweetness as needed.

8

Pour the tea into cups and garnish each cup with a sprig of fresh mint or a lemon slice if desired. Serve hot.

9

Leftover brewed tea can be refrigerated for up to 24 hours and served cold over ice as an iced herbal-green tea.
