Base & Dairy

Acid & Sweetener

Method

Combine Base & Dairy

1

Whisk base

In a medium bowl, whisk together 1 cup mayonnaise and 1 cup sour cream until smooth and homogenous.

2

Gradually whisk in 1 cup buttermilk until the mixture reaches a pourable but creamy consistency. If you prefer thicker ranch, use 3/4 cup buttermilk; for thinner, add up to 1 1/4 cups.

Add Acid & Sweetness

3

Stir in 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice and 1 teaspoon honey until fully incorporated. Taste and adjust acidity or sweetness as desired.

Season with Southwest Spices

4

Add the southwest seasoning: 1 teaspoon chili powder, 1 teaspoon smoked paprika, 1 teaspoon ground cumin, 1 teaspoon onion powder, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon dried oregano, 1 teaspoon ground black pepper, and 1 teaspoon kosher salt. Whisk thoroughly to distribute the spices evenly.

5

Taste the dressing and adjust salt, pepper, or chili powder to your preference.

Fold in Fresh Ingredients & Heat

6

Fold in 1/4 cup finely chopped fresh cilantro and 2 thinly sliced green onions (white and green parts).

7

Add 1 finely minced jalapeño (seeded for milder heat, keep seeds for more kick). Mix until evenly distributed.

Optional Smoky Heat

8

If you want extra smoky heat, stir in 1 teaspoon minced chipotle in adobo and 1 teaspoon adobo sauce, or 1/4 teaspoon smoked cayenne or a few dashes of your favorite hot sauce. Mix well and taste, adding more sparingly to avoid overpowering the ranch.

Chill & Finish

9

Cover the bowl and refrigerate the ranch for at least 1 hour, preferably 2–4 hours, to allow the flavors to meld. Overnight is best for maximum flavor.

10

Before serving, stir the dressing, taste, and adjust seasoning with additional salt, lime juice, or a splash of buttermilk to reach desired consistency and brightness.

11

Serve chilled. Keeps in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days; stir before each use.
