Cooking Instructions
Marinate the Chicken
In a large bowl, mix the buttermilk and hot sauce. Add the chicken thighs, ensuring they are fully submerged. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight for best results.
Prepare the Coating
In another bowl, combine the flour, cayenne pepper, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.
Coat the Chicken
Remove the chicken from the marinade and let excess buttermilk drip off. Dredge each piece in the flour mixture, ensuring an even coating.
Fry the Chicken
In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, carefully add the coated chicken pieces. Fry for about 5-7 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towels.
Make the Spice Oil
In a small bowl, mix additional cayenne pepper with a few tablespoons of the frying oil to create a spicy oil. Brush this mixture over the fried chicken for extra heat.
Assemble the Sandwich
On each bun, place a piece of fried chicken, add pickles, and coleslaw (if using). Top with the other half of the bun.
Serve
Enjoy your Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich with your favorite side!
