Method
Cocktail
Chill glass (optional)
If desired, chill a large wine glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare ingredients, then discard the water before assembling. This keeps the drink colder longer.
Add ice
Fill the large wine glass generously with ice, leaving room at the top for liquids and garnish. Using lots of ice keeps the spritz cold and prevents over-dilution.
Pour Prosecco
Pour 3 oz (about 90 ml) of chilled Prosecco into the glass over the ice. Pouring the sparkling wine first helps the final effervescence and layering.
Add Aperol
Add 2 oz (about 60 ml) of Aperol gently into the glass. Pouring after the Prosecco helps create a pleasing color gradation.
Top with soda
Add 1 oz (about 30 ml) of chilled soda water to the glass. Adjust to taste if you prefer a slightly lighter or stronger spritz.
Stir gently
Give the cocktail one or two gentle stirrings with a bar spoon to combine ingredients while preserving bubbles. Avoid vigorous stirring which will flatten the Prosecco.
Garnish and serve
Garnish with one fresh orange slice placed on the rim or floated in the drink. Serve immediately while cold and fizzy.
