Method

Cocktail Base

1

Measure and combine

Add 2 oz rye whiskey, 0.75 oz coffee liqueur, 1 oz cold-brew coffee, 0.25 oz black cacao liqueur, and 0.25 oz Amaro into a mixing glass.

2

Sweeten and brighten

Add 0.5 tsp demerara syrup and 0.25 oz fresh lemon juice to the mixing glass to balance bitterness and add brightness.

Mixing & Chilling

3

Stir with ice

Fill the mixing glass with plenty of ice and stir gently for 20–30 seconds until the mixture is well chilled and slightly diluted (the glass will frost). Stirring maintains clarity and integrates the coffee without over-aerating.

4

Prepare glass

Place a single large ice cube in a chilled Old Fashioned glass (or rocks glass).

5

Strain

Using a julep or Hawthorne strainer, strain the chilled cocktail over the large ice cube in the prepared glass.

Finish & Garnish

6

Bitters and aroma

Add 2 dashes of Angostura bitters on top of the drink. Express the oil from an orange twist over the surface by holding the twist over the glass and giving it a sharp fold, then rub the peel around the rim and drop it into the drink.

7

Garnish

Float three coffee beans on the surface for aroma and presentation. Serve immediately.
