Preparation

1

Step 1: Rinse the Rice

Place the glutinous rice in a bowl and rinse it under cold water until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch.

2

Step 2: Soak the Rice

Soak the rinsed rice in water for at least 4 hours or overnight for the best texture.

3

Step 3: Prepare the Coconut Sauce

In a saucepan, combine the coconut milk, sugar, and salt. Heat over medium-low until the sugar dissolves, stirring occasionally. Do not let it boil. Reserve half of this mixture for drizzling later.

4

Step 4: Cook the Rice

Drain the soaked rice and place it in a steamer basket lined with cheesecloth. Steam the rice over boiling water for about 20-25 minutes, or until tender and sticky.

5

Step 5: Combine Rice and Coconut Sauce

Once the rice is cooked, transfer it to a bowl and pour the remaining coconut sauce over it. Mix well and let it sit for 10 minutes to absorb the flavors.

6

Step 6: Prepare the Mango

While the rice is resting, peel the ripe mangoes, remove the pit, and slice them into thin wedges.

7

Step 7: Serve

To serve, place a portion of sticky rice on a plate, arrange mango slices on the side, and drizzle with the reserved coconut sauce. Sprinkle sesame seeds on top if desired.
