Method
Preparation of Flautas
- 1
In a mixing bowl, combine the shredded beef or chicken with salt and ground black pepper. Mix well to ensure the meat is evenly seasoned.
- 2
Warm the corn tortillas in a skillet or microwave until pliable, about 30 seconds in the microwave.
- 3
Place 2-3 tablespoons of the seasoned shredded meat onto each tortilla, then roll tightly to form a flauta. Secure each flauta with a toothpick if necessary.
Frying Flautas
- 4
Heat Oil
In a large frying pan, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 5
Fry Flautas
Carefully add the rolled flautas into the hot oil, a few at a time, and fry until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- 6
Once fried, remove the flautas from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
Serving
- 7
Arrange the flautas on a serving plate and top with melted cheese if desired.
- 8
Serve hot with a side of guacamole and sour cream for dipping.
