Preparation
- 1
Prepare the Prime Rib
Remove the prime rib roast from the refrigerator 1 hour before cooking to bring it to room temperature. Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C).
- 2
Season the Meat
In a small bowl, mix together the kosher salt, black pepper, garlic powder, rosemary, and thyme. Rub the olive oil all over the prime rib roast, then generously coat the roast with the seasoning mixture, ensuring it covers all sides.
Cooking
- 3
Roast the Prime Rib
Place the seasoned prime rib roast in a roasting pan, bone-side down. Roast in the preheated oven for 20 minutes to create a crust.
- 4
Reduce Temperature
After 20 minutes, reduce the oven temperature to 325°F (163°C). Continue roasting for approximately 15-20 minutes per pound for medium-rare, basting occasionally with the beef broth. Use a meat thermometer to check doneness (130°F/54°C for medium-rare).
- 5
Rest the Meat
Once the desired temperature is reached, remove the prime rib from the oven and let it rest for at least 20-30 minutes before slicing. This allows the juices to redistribute.
