Method
Burger Patty Preparation
- 1
Mix the Patty Ingredients
In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.
- 2
Form the Patties
Divide the mixture into two equal portions and shape them into burger patties, about ¾ inch thick.
- 3
Cook the Patties
Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until they reach your desired level of doneness.
Grilled Onions
- 4
Slice the Onion
Peel and slice the medium onion into thin rings.
- 5
Sauté the Onions
In the same skillet used for the patties, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté for about 8-10 minutes until they are golden and caramelized. Remove from heat.
Assemble the Patty Melt
- 6
Prepare the Bread
Spread butter on one side of each slice of rye bread.
- 7
Layer the Ingredients
On the unbuttered side of two slices of bread, place one patty, followed by two slices of Swiss cheese and a generous amount of grilled onions. Top with the other two slices of bread, buttered side up.
