Fat Tire's unique flavor profile originates from 1930s Belgium. During this era, small breweries began offering easy-drinking beer crafted with signature Belgian yeast.

In a large brew kettle, add 5 gallons of water and heat to 160°F (71°C). Stir in the pale malt, crystal malt, and caramel malt. Maintain the temperature at 150°F (65°C) for one hour, stirring occasionally.

Mashing the Malts

After mashing, separate the liquid (wort) from the grains using a lauter tun. Rinse the grains with an additional 1 gallon of hot water to extract more sugars.

Lautering

Bring the collected wort to a boil. Once boiling, add the whole Cascade hops. Boil for 60 minutes, adding the Saaz hops in the last 15 minutes of the boil.

After boiling, cool the wort quickly using a wort chiller or an ice bath until it reaches around 70°F (21°C).

Cooling the Wort

Transfer the cooled wort to a sanitized fermenter. Add the Belgian Ale yeast and seal the fermenter with an airlock. Allow it to ferment at room temperature for about 2 weeks.

Pitching the Yeast

After fermentation is complete, prepare bottles and caps. Mix 3/4 cup of corn sugar with 2 cups of water, boil and cool it. Add this mixture to the beer before bottling to carbonate. Fill the bottles, cap them, and let them sit for another 2 weeks.
