Method
Calamari
- 1
Prepare the Calamari
Rinse the calamari rings under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.
- 2
Set Up Breading Station
In a shallow bowl, combine flour, cornstarch, salt, and black pepper. In another bowl, whisk together the egg and milk. In a third bowl, place the bread crumbs.
- 3
Bread the Calamari
Dredge each calamari ring in the flour mixture, then dip into the egg mixture, and finally coat in the bread crumbs. Ensure each piece is evenly coated.
- 4
Heat the Oil
In a large pot or deep fryer, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat until it reaches 350°F (175°C).
- 5
Fry the Calamari
Carefully add the breaded calamari rings to the hot oil in batches, avoiding overcrowding. Fry for 2-3 minutes or until golden brown. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
Cocktail Sauce
- 6
Mix the Sauce
In a small bowl, combine ketchup, horseradish, lemon juice, Worcestershire sauce, and hot sauce. Mix well until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.
Serving
- 7
Serve with Lemon
Serve the fried calamari hot with the cocktail sauce on the side and lemon wedges for squeezing.
