Preparing Burger Patties

Make the Patties
In a large bowl, combine ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.

Form the Patties
Divide the meat mixture into four equal portions and shape each portion into a patty about ¾ inch thick.

Prepare for Steaming
Once the patties are grilled, place them in a grilling basket or a heatproof dish.

Steam with Beer
Pour the lager beer over the patties and cover with foil. Allow them to steam for an additional 5 minutes.

Prepare the Rolls
Slice the pretzel rolls in half and toast them lightly on the grill.

Build the Burger
On the bottom half of each pretzel roll, place a beer-steamed burger patty. Top each patty with a slice of bacon and a generous amount of cheese sauce. Cover with the top half of the roll.
