Mojito Base (per 1 cocktail)

Method

Prepare the Glass & Mint

1

Chill glass (optional)

If preferred, place a highball glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare ingredients; discard ice water before building the cocktail.

2

Place 8 fresh mint leaves and the lime wedge into a sturdy mixing glass or the chilled serving glass. Reserve one sprig of mint and one lime wheel for garnish.

3

Add 0.75 oz simple syrup to the mint and lime. Using a muddler, gently press and twist 6–8 times — just enough to release the mint oils and juice from the lime but not so much as to shred the mint (avoid over-muddling to reduce bitterness).

Build the Cocktail

4

Add 2 oz white rum to the mixing glass (or directly to the serving glass if you muddled there). If using a flavored syrup, add 0.5 oz now.

5

Fill the glass about three-quarters full with crushed ice (approximately 1 cup).

6

Pour in 0.75 oz fresh lime juice.

7

Top gently with about 2 oz club soda.

8

Use a long bar spoon to fold the ingredients together with 6–8 gentle strokes — lift the mint from the bottom so the flavor distributes without bruising.

Finish & Serve

9

If desired, add 2 dashes of Angostura bitters on top for aromatic depth.

10

Add a sprig of mint (slap it lightly between your palms to release aroma) and a lime wheel as garnish. Optionally, run a lime wedge around the rim before placing the garnish.

11

Serve immediately with a straw and an extra napkin; enjoy chilled.
