Cake and Mousse Ingredients
Method
Instructions
Prepare the Cake
Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F). Grease and line an 8-inch round cake pan with parchment paper.
Melt Chocolate and Butter
In a heatproof bowl, combine the chopped dark chocolate and unsalted butter. Melt them together over a pot of simmering water (double boiler method) or in the microwave in short bursts, stirring until smooth.
Mix Cake Batter
Remove the melted chocolate mixture from heat and let it cool slightly. Stir in the granulated sugar, then add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Gently fold in the flour until just combined.
Bake the Cake
Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Bake for about 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Prepare the Mousse
In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream, vanilla extract, and powdered sugar until soft peaks form. In another bowl, beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form.
Combine Mousse Mixture
Gently fold the whipped cream into the melted chocolate mixture until combined, then fold in the beaten egg whites until no white streaks remain.
Assemble the Cake
Once the cake has cooled completely, slice it in half horizontally. Spread half of the mousse between the layers and the remaining mousse on top of the cake.
Chill and Serve
Refrigerate the cake for at least 2 hours to set the mousse before serving. Enjoy your delicious Chocolate Mousse Cake!
