Method

For the Sandwich

  1. 1

    Toast and Prepare Bread

Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat. Spread butter lightly on one side of each of the three bread slices. Toast the buttered sides in the skillet until golden brown, about 1–2 minutes per side, watching carefully to avoid burning. Remove and set toasted-side up.

  2. 2

    Mix Spread

In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise and Dijon mustard. Stir until smooth. Taste and adjust mustard or mayo to preference.

  3. 3

    Assemble First Layer

On one slice of toasted bread (untoasted side up), spread half of the mayo-mustard mixture evenly. Layer the sliced turkey over the spread, then add one slice of cheddar cheese. Season the tomato slices lightly with a pinch of the kosher salt and a grind of black pepper, then place tomato and a lettuce leaf on top of the cheese.

  4. 4

    Add Middle Slice

Place the second slice of toasted bread on top of the first layer, toasted side up. Spread the remaining mayo-mustard on the uncovered side of this middle slice. Layer the ham and the crispy bacon strips over it.

  5. 5

    Finish Assembly

Top with the remaining slice of toasted bread, buttered side down (toasted side up). Press the sandwich gently to compress slightly. If desired, secure with toothpicks through both ends to hold layers.

  6. 6

    Slice and Serve

Using a sharp knife, cut the sandwich diagonally in both directions to create two triangular halves (or four small tea-sandwich triangles if preferred). Serve immediately with a pickle spear and potato chips on the side.

Optional Garnish & Serving

  1. 7

Arrange pickle spear and chips on the plate beside the sandwich. For a warm contrast, serve chips at room temperature and pickle chilled.
