Baklava Preparation Instructions
Prepare the Nut Filling
In a mixing bowl, combine the chopped walnuts, chopped pistachios, granulated sugar, and ground cinnamon. Mix well and set aside.
Prepare the Filo Dough
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Melt the unsalted butter in a small saucepan. Lay out the filo dough and cover it with a damp cloth to prevent it from drying out.
Assemble the Baklava
In a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, place one sheet of filo and brush it with melted butter. Repeat this process, layering about 8 sheets of filo, brushing each layer with butter. Next, spread a layer of the nut mixture over the filo. Continue layering 4 more sheets of filo with butter, then another layer of nuts. Repeat until all the nuts are used, finishing with a top layer of filo (about 8 sheets again).
Cut and Bake
Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes. Bake in the preheated oven for about 45-50 minutes, or until golden brown.
Finish the Baklava
Once the baklava is done baking, remove it from the oven and immediately pour the cooled syrup evenly over the hot baklava. Let it cool completely before serving.
