Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Chill glass

Place an old-fashioned glass (or rocks glass) in the freezer for a few minutes or fill it with ice water to chill while you build the cocktail.

  2. 2

    Combine ingredients

In a mixing glass, add 2 oz Kentucky bourbon, 0.75 oz Amaro Lucano, and 0.5 oz Carpano Antica (sweet vermouth).

  3. 3

    Add bitters

Add 2 dashes of chocolate bitters and 1 dash of orange bitters to the mixing glass.

  4. 4

    Stir with ice

Fill the mixing glass with large ice, then stir gently and evenly for about 30–45 seconds (20–30 full rotations) until well chilled and slightly diluted.

  5. 5

    Prepare glass

Dump the ice water from the chilled old-fashioned glass or remove the chilled glass from the freezer. Place a single large ice cube in the glass.

  6. 6

    Serve

Strain the chilled cocktail from the mixing glass into the prepared rocks glass over the large ice cube.

  7. 7

    Garnish

Express the oils of an orange twist over the drink by holding the twist over the glass and giving it a sharp squeeze so the oils release, then rub the peel around the rim and drop it into the glass as garnish.

  8. 8

    Enjoy

Serve immediately and sip slowly to appreciate the balance of bourbon, herbal amaro, rich vermouth, and chocolate–orange bitters.
