Preparation
Prepare the Vegetables
Finely chop the onion, carrot, and celery. Mince the garlic cloves and set aside.
Cooking the Sauce
Brown the Meat
Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef and ground pork. Cook until browned, breaking up the meat with a spoon, about 8-10 minutes.
Stir in Tomato Paste
Add the tomato paste to the meat mixture and stir well to combine. Cook for 2-3 minutes to caramelize the tomato paste.
Add Wine and Tomatoes
Pour in the red wine and let it simmer for 2-3 minutes. Then, add the canned diced tomatoes, beef broth, oregano, salt, black pepper, and bay leaf. Stir to combine.
Simmer the Sauce
Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and let it cook for at least 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Cooking the Pasta
Cook the Spaghetti
In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook the spaghetti according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
Serving
Combine and Serve
Remove the bay leaf from the sauce. Toss the cooked spaghetti with the Bolognese sauce until well coated. Serve hot, garnished with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh basil leaves.
