Method
Prepare & Muddle
Muddle thyme
In a cocktail shaker, place 1 fresh thyme sprig (reserve one for garnish). Gently clap the second sprig between your palms to release the aromatics, then add it to the shaker and lightly muddle 6–8 times to bruise the leaves without pulverizing them.
Add liquids
Add 2 oz blood orange gin, 0.5 oz fresh lemon juice, and 0.5 oz simple syrup into the shaker with the muddled thyme.
Shake & Strain
Shake with ice
Fill the shaker with ice (enough to three-quarters fill). Shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds until the outside of the shaker is cold.
Double-strain
Double-strain the mixture (using a Hawthorne strainer and a fine mesh strainer) into a chilled highball or Collins glass filled with fresh ice to keep thyme bits out of the drink while preserving flavor.
Top & Garnish
Finish and serve
Garnish with the reserved thyme sprig (slap it lightly between your palms to release aroma and place on top) and a blood orange wheel or a thin twist on the rim. Serve immediately.
