Method
Prepare Water & Tea
Measure and heat water
Measure 2 cups of fresh cold water. Heat the water to the appropriate temperature: for black tea bring to a full rolling boil (~212°F / 100°C); for green tea heat to about 175–185°F (80–85°C). If you don't have a thermometer, bring to a boil and let sit 1–2 minutes for green tea.
Pre-warm teapot/cup
If using a teapot, pour a small amount of the hot water into it, swirl briefly, and discard. This pre-warms the vessel and helps maintain steeping temperature.
Steeping & Finishing
Steep the tea
Pour the heated water over the tea leaves. Steep for the recommended time: 3–5 minutes for black tea (3 for lighter, 5 for stronger), or 2–3 minutes for green tea. Cover the teapot or cup while steeping to retain heat.
