Patty Melt Ingredients
Method
Cooking Directions
- 1
Prepare the Onions
Slice the large onion into thin rings. In a skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and a pinch of salt. Cook, stirring occasionally, for about 10-15 minutes, or until the onions are caramelized and golden brown. Remove from skillet and set aside.

Cook the Beef Patty
In a bowl, season the ground beef with salt and pepper. Form the beef into a patty that is slightly larger than the slices of bread. In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of butter over medium-high heat. Cook the beef patty for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until it reaches your desired doneness.

Assemble the Patty Melt
Once the patty is cooked, place a slice of Swiss cheese on the patty while it’s still in the skillet. Allow it to melt slightly, about 1 minute. On one slice of toasted rye bread, layer the tomato (sliced), the beef patty with melted cheese, and the caramelized onions. Top with another slice of toasted rye bread.
