Rum Base & Fruit Juices

Sweetener & Boosters

Method

Prepare & Combine

1

Fill shaker

Add crushed or cubed ice to a cocktail shaker until about two-thirds full to chill the drink efficiently.

2

Measure and pour spirits

Pour 2 oz dark rum, 1 oz light rum, 0.5 oz banana liqueur and 0.5 oz blackberry liqueur into the shaker over the ice.

3

Add juices and sweeteners

Add 2 oz fresh orange juice, 2 oz pineapple juice, 0.5 oz fresh lime juice, 0.5 oz grenadine and 0.25 oz simple syrup into the shaker.

4

Bitters

Add 2 dashes of Angostura bitters to the shaker to deepen the flavor and balance sweetness.

5

Shake vigorously

Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until the exterior of the shaker feels very cold and diluted slightly (this chills and integrates the juices and liqueurs).

Serve & Garnish

6

Prepare glass

Fill a highball or hurricane glass with fresh crushed ice or cubed ice to the brim.

7

Strain

Strain the shaken mixture over the prepared glass filled with ice. Use a fine strainer if you prefer less pulp.

8

Layer grenadine (optional effect)

If you want a sunset gradient, spoon an extra 0.25 oz grenadine slowly down the inside edge of the glass so it sinks and creates a red layer near the bottom.

9

Garnish

Garnish with an orange wheel and a maraschino cherry on a pick. Tuck a mint sprig behind the orange for aroma if desired.

10

Serve

Serve immediately with a straw and a cocktail napkin. Encourage guests to stir gently before drinking to blend any layered grenadine.
