Ingredients

Bottled Beer

Glass & Garnish

Preparation

Bottled Beer

1. Chill the beer

Place the sealed bottle in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours to reach a serving temperature of about 3–7°C (37–45°F). If you need it faster, submerge the closed bottle in an ice-water bath (ice + water) for 10–15 minutes. Adding salt to the ice water can shorten the chill time to ~5–8 minutes. Do not freeze the bottle.

2. Inspect and steady

Check the bottle for cracks, excessive sediment, or visible contamination. If the bottle was recently moved, set it upright for a couple of minutes to let any disturbed sediment settle before opening.

3. Open the bottle

Hold the bottle at the base with one hand and use the bottle opener with the other to remove the cap cleanly. Open steadily to avoid agitation and excessive foaming.

Glass & Garnish

4. Chill the glass (optional)

If you prefer a chilled glass, place the pilsner or lager glass in the freezer for 10–15 minutes or rinse it with cold water and drain just before pouring. A cold glass helps maintain carbonation and keeps the beer colder on the palate.

5. Pouring technique

Hold the chilled glass at a 45° angle. Begin pouring the Modelo gently down the side of the glass about 1–2 cm from the rim so carbonation settles smoothly. When the glass is approximately three-quarters full, slowly straighten it to vertical and pour the remaining beer into the center to form a modest 1–1.5 cm (about 1/2 inch) creamy head. This technique preserves carbonation while releasing aroma.

6. Add lime (optional)

Traditional Modelo is served without a lime, but if you use one: run the lime wedge once around the rim, then place it on the rim or drop it into the glass. Use the lime sparingly — it brightens the flavor but can mask the beer's malt character.

7. Serve and short-term storage

Serve immediately at 3–7°C. If you do not finish the bottle, recap with a reusable bottle cap or pour remaining beer into a small airtight container and refrigerate — consume within 24 hours for best carbonation and flavor. Store unopened bottles upright in a cool, dark place.
