Ingredients

Bottled Beer

Glassware & Garnish

Preparation

Bottled Beer

1. Chill the bottle (if needed)

Aim to serve the Heineken 0.0 at about 3–5 °C. If the bottle is not chilled, place it in the refrigerator for at least 60 minutes. For quicker chilling: submerge in an ice–water slurry for 15–20 minutes, rotating occasionally for even cooling.

2. Open carefully

Place the bottle upright on a stable surface. Using a bottle opener, remove the cap with a single, smooth motion. Keep the bottle steady and avoid shaking to minimize CO2 agitation.

3. Controlled pour

Hold the chilled glass at a 45° angle. Begin pouring the Heineken 0.0 slowly down the inside wall of the glass so the liquid runs gently. When the glass is about half full, gradually straighten it to vertical and pour down the center to create a head of about 1–1.5 cm (approximately 0.4–0.6 in). Pour smoothly to avoid excessive foam.

4. Settle and check

Let the beer settle for a few seconds so any excess foam dissipates and the beer clears. If excessive foam forms, pause pouring and allow it to drop before topping off.

5. Final presentation

Place the filled glass on a coaster. Serve immediately while cold. Do not swirl the glass vigorously — Heineken 0.0 is best enjoyed clean and crisp.

Glassware & Garnish

6. Prepare the glass

If possible, chill the pilsner/tulip glass in the freezer for 10–15 minutes or in the fridge for 30 minutes before serving. Just before pouring, rinse the inside of the glass briefly with cold water and drain — this cools the glass and removes any dust or residues that can affect head formation and aroma.

7. Place coaster

Set a coaster on the serving surface to catch condensation and present the glass neatly. Place the glass on the coaster before setting the bottle aside.

8. Garnish (optional)

If using a lime wedge, hold it by the rind and lightly run the cut edge around the rim or place the wedge on the glass lip. Do not squeeze juice into the beer unless you prefer a citrus note — Heineken 0.0 is typically served without garnish.
