Method

For the tea

1

Boil water

Pour 1 cup (240 ml) cold water into a small saucepan or kettle. Bring water to a rolling boil over medium-high heat.

2

Add tea

If using loose black tea, place 1 tsp of tea leaves into a teapot or directly into the mug using an infuser. If using a tea bag, place the bag in the mug.

3

Steep

Pour the boiling water over the tea leaves or tea bag. Steep for 3–5 minutes depending on desired strength (3 minutes for lighter, up to 5 for stronger).

4

Strain or remove bag

Remove the tea bag or strain the leaves from the teapot into the mug so loose leaves are removed.

5

Add milk and sweetener (optional)

If you want milk tea, add 2 tablespoons of milk to the hot tea and stir. Add 1 teaspoon sugar or 1 teaspoon honey to sweeten; stir until dissolved. Alternatively, skip milk and add a slice of lemon instead of milk, if desired.

6

Adjust and serve

Taste and adjust: add more milk or sweetener if preferred. Serve immediately while hot.

Cleanup

7

Discard used tea bag or rinse out the tea leaves and clean the infuser. Rinse the teapot, saucepan/kettle, and mug with warm soapy water and allow to dry.
