Method
Individual Mini Biscuit (Sweet Treat Sample)
Preheat and prepare
Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a small baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease a mini tart or ramekin if you prefer a shaped sample.
Combine dry ingredients
In a small bowl, whisk together the 0.5 cup all-purpose flour, 1 tsp granulated sugar, 0.5 tsp baking powder, and a pinch of fine salt until evenly distributed.
Cut in butter
Cut 1 tablespoon cold unsalted butter into small pieces and use a fork or a pastry cutter to work it into the flour mixture until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs with some pea-sized pieces of butter remaining. This creates flakiness.
Add wet ingredients
Stir in 3 tablespoons whole milk and 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract just until the dough comes together. Do not overmix; the dough should be slightly shaggy but hold when pressed.
Fold in extras (optional)
If using, gently fold in 1 teaspoon mini chocolate chips or dried fruit so they are evenly distributed without crushing the dough.
Shape the biscuit
Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and gently pat or roll into a roughly 1/2-inch thick disk. Using a small round cutter (about 2–3 inches) or the rim of a glass, cut out one mini biscuit. Press scraps together lightly and reshape if needed to make a single sample-sized biscuit.
Bake
Place the mini biscuit on the prepared baking sheet about 1 inch apart if baking multiple. Bake in the preheated 425°F (220°C) oven for 8–10 minutes, or until the top is lightly golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
Cool
Remove the biscuit from the oven and let it cool on the baking sheet for 3–5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool slightly. Cooling prevents the bottom from becoming soggy.
