Cold Brew Concentrate

Method

Cold Brew Concentrate

1

Combine coffee and water

Place 1 cup coarsely ground coffee in a large jar, pitcher, or cold-brew vessel. Pour 4 cups cold, filtered water over the grounds, ensuring all grounds are saturated. Stir gently for 10–15 seconds to ensure even wetting.

2

Steep

Cover the container with a lid or plastic wrap and let it steep at room temperature for 12 to 18 hours. For a cleaner, less bitter profile, aim for 12–14 hours; for a stronger, fuller-bodied concentrate, steep up to 18 hours.

3

Strain

After steeping, strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve lined with a double layer of cheesecloth, a coffee filter, or a paper towel into a clean container. Allow the liquid to drip through without pressing the grounds to avoid over-extraction and grit. If necessary, filter a second time to remove fines.

4

Store

Transfer the cold brew concentrate to a sealed bottle or jar and refrigerate. Concentrate will keep well for up to 10–14 days; flavor is best within the first week.

To Serve (per 1 cup serving)

5

Fill a serving glass with about 6 ice cubes.

6

Pour 1/2 cup cold brew concentrate over the ice, then add 1/2 cup cold water or milk (adjust to taste). This yields a balanced cup; use a 1:1 ratio for regular strength, 1:2 to dilute more, or undiluted concentrate for a stronger drink.

7

If you like sweetened coffee, add 1 tablespoon simple syrup (dissolves best) or another sweetener to taste and stir gently.

8

Top with 1 tablespoon milk foam or cream if desired for a richer mouthfeel. Stir lightly and serve immediately.

9

Store any remaining concentrate refrigerated and use within 10–14 days.
