Method
Drink
Chill and prepare glass
If serving cold, chill the bottle/can for at least 1–2 hours in the refrigerator. Place the glass in the freezer for 10–15 minutes or fill the glass with ice to cool it, then discard extra ice so the glass is cold and not overly diluted.
Add ice
Fill the chilled glass with approximately 1 cup of fresh ice, leaving some room at the top for the beer (adjust ice to preference).
Pour Abita Root Beer
Open one bottle or can of Abita Root Beer. Slowly tilt the glass at a 45° angle and pour the root beer down the side to minimize foam. As the glass fills, gradually level it to upright and pour gently to produce a moderate head (foam) — typically 1/2 to 1 inch — which enhances aroma.
Root Beer Float (Optional)
Pour root beer over ice cream
Hold the bottle/can close to the ice cream and pour slowly to control foaming. Pour until the foam reaches just below the rim. The carbonation will create a foamy head — allow it to settle for 15–30 seconds.
Garnish and serve
Top with 1–2 tablespoons of whipped cream and a maraschino cherry. Serve with a long spoon and straw for scooping and sipping.
