Slutty Sangria: The Red Wine

Tropical and juicy. Triple dry-hopped with Citra, El Dorado, Topaz, and Galaxy.

In a large mash tun, heat 5 gallons of water to around 160°F (71°C). Add the Pale Malt, Caramel Malt, and Flaked Oats to the water and stir well to ensure there are no dry clumps. Maintain the temperature at 152°F (67°C) for 60 minutes.

Mash Grains

After the mash is complete, sparge the grains with 170°F (77°C) water to collect about 6 gallons of wort in your brew kettle.

Sparge the Grains

Bring the wort to a boil. Once boiling, add 1 oz of Citra Hops and boil for 60 minutes.

Boil the Wort

With 15 minutes left in the boil, add 0.5 oz of Citra Hops and 1 oz of El Dorado Hops. At flameout, add 0.5 oz of Citra Hops, 1 oz of Topaz Hops, and 2 oz of Galaxy Hops.

Add Remaining Hops

Rapidly cool the wort to about 70°F (21°C) using a wort chiller or an ice bath.

Cool the Wort

Transfer the cooled wort into a sanitized fermenter, leaving behind any sediment. Pitch the American Ale yeast according to the package instructions. Seal the fermenter and attach an airlock.

Allow the beer to ferment at around 68°F (20°C) for 1-2 weeks, or until fermentation is complete.

Ferment

Once fermentation is complete, add the remaining hops (0.5 oz of Citra, 0.5 oz of El Dorado, 1 oz of Topaz, and 1 oz of Galaxy) directly to the fermenter. Allow to sit for another 5-7 days.

Dry Hop

After dry hopping, transfer the beer to a sanitized bottling bucket or keg, adding priming sugar if bottling. Bottle or keg the beer, then let it carbonate for 1-2 weeks before enjoying.
