Collect all three bourbon bottles—Blanton's, W.L. Weller Special Reserve, and Old Forester 1910. Ensure you have Glencairn glasses for each bourbon, a cup of water for palate cleansing, and a tasting notebook with a pen or pencil.

Gather Your Materials

Choose a clean, well-lit table where you can comfortably sit and enjoy the tasting. Arrange the bottles in front of you, and place a Glencairn glass for each bourbon at the table.

Set Up Your Tasting Area

Pour approximately 1 oz (30 ml) of each bourbon into its respective Glencairn glass. Start with Blanton's, followed by W.L. Weller Special Reserve, and finally Old Forester 1910.

Pour the Bourbons

Hold each glass up to the light and observe the color of the bourbon. Take notes in your tasting notebook about the hue and any observations.

Observe the Color

Gently swirl each bourbon in the glass, then bring it to your nose to inhale the aroma. Note the scents that you detect for each bourbon in your notebook.

Swirl and Smell

Take a small sip of the first bourbon (Blanton's), allowing it to coat your palate. Note the flavors, mouthfeel, and finish. Cleanse your palate with a sip of water before moving on to W.L. Weller Special Reserve, and repeat the tasting process. Finally, taste the Old Forester 1910.

Taste Each Bourbon

After tasting all three bourbons, reflect on the differences and similarities. Write down your overall favorites and any additional thoughts in your tasting notebook.
