Smoothie Base

Method

Prepare Ingredients

1

Measure and prepare

Measure 2 cups frozen mixed berries and peel the ripe banana. If using fresh berries instead of frozen, measure 1.5 to 2 cups fresh berries and add 1/2 cup ice to the recipe to achieve a chilled texture.

2

If using Greek yogurt, measure 1/2 cup. Measure oat milk (1 cup), sweetener (1 tablespoon honey or maple syrup) and vanilla (1/4 tsp) if using. Prepare any optional add-ins (1 tbsp flaxseed or chia) and set aside garnish berries and mint.

Blend Smoothie

3

Layer ingredients in blender

Add oat milk to the blender first (this helps the blades move), then add Greek yogurt (if using), banana, frozen mixed berries, sweetener and vanilla, and any seeds or add-ins. If you substituted fresh berries, add the 1/2 cup ice now.

4

Blend until smooth

Secure lid and blend on high for 45–90 seconds, stopping to scrape down the sides once if needed, until the mixture is smooth and creamy with no large chunks of fruit. If the smoothie is too thick, add oat milk 1–2 tablespoons at a time and pulse until desired consistency is reached. If too thin, add a few more frozen berries or 1/4 cup ice and blend again.

Serve

5

Pour the smoothie into two 12-ounce glasses (or one large glass). Top with a few fresh berries, a sprinkle of flaxseed or chia if using, and a mint leaf for garnish.

6

Serve immediately with a straw. Taste and adjust sweetness if needed by stirring in a little more honey or maple syrup to taste.
