Prepare Meat Sauce
1. Cook the beef and vegetables
In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef, chopped onion, and minced garlic. Cook until the beef is browned and the onion is soft, about 7-10 minutes. Drain excess fat.
2. Add tomatoes and seasonings
Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a simmer and let cook for about 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Prepare Cheese Mixture
3. Mix ricotta and seasonings
In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, grated Parmesan cheese, salt, black pepper, and chopped parsley. Mix until well combined.
Assemble Lasagna
4. Boil lasagna noodles
In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
5. Layer the lasagna
In a 9x13 inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom. Layer 4 lasagna noodles over the sauce. Spread half of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, followed by a third of the mozzarella cheese. Repeat the layers, ending with a final layer of meat sauce and the remaining mozzarella cheese on top.
6. Bake the lasagna
Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil (to prevent sticking, spray foil with cooking spray) and bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
7. Cool and serve
Let the lasagna cool for 15 minutes before slicing. Serve warm and enjoy!
