Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

  1. 1

    Prepare and shake

Add vodka (or gin), crème de violette, fresh lemon juice, ginger syrup and orange bitters into a cocktail shaker filled about two-thirds with ice. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds, until the outside of the shaker is very cold and slightly frosted.

  2. 2

    Strain

Double-strain the cocktail into a chilled coupe or Nick & Nora glass using a Hawthorne strainer and fine mesh strainer to remove ice shards for a bright, silky texture.

  3. 3

    Optional soda top

If you prefer a lighter, spritz-style drink, top gently with about 1 oz club soda poured down the side of the glass to preserve the layered look and effervescence. Do not stir vigorously.

Garnish & Serve

  1. 4

Express the lemon twist over the cocktail by holding it skin-side down above the drink and giving it a firm twist to release oils, then rub the rim with the twist and drop it into the glass.

  2. 5

Garnish with one edible violet placed on the surface or a small piece of candied ginger on a cocktail pick laid across the rim. Serve immediately.
