Cocktail

Method

Cocktail

1

Chill glass

Place a highball or Collins glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes, or fill it with ice water while you prepare the cocktail to chill it.

2

Combine ingredients

Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice. Add vodka, fresh orange juice, fresh lemon juice, triple sec, simple syrup, and orange bitters into the shaker.

3

Shake

Secure the shaker lid and shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds until well chilled and slightly frothy from the citrus.

4

Prepare glass & pour grenadine

If you used ice water to chill the glass, empty it. Fill the chilled glass with fresh ice. Pour the grenadine into the bottom of the glass — it will sink to create the sunkist gradient.

5

Strain

Double-strain the shaken cocktail over the fresh ice and grenadine using a Hawthorne or fine mesh strainer so the orange mixture floats and creates a layered, 'sunkist' effect.

6

Finish & serve

Garnish with an orange wheel on the rim and a maraschino cherry dropped on top. Optionally, give the drink a gentle stir (1–2 turns) if you prefer a more integrated flavor; for a visual gradient leave un-stirred. Serve immediately.

Garnish

7

Slice an orange wheel (about 1/4-inch thick) and make a small cut to perch it on the glass. Drop a maraschino cherry into the drink next to the orange wheel.
