Preparation Steps
Activate the Yeast
In a small bowl, combine warm water and active dry yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes or until bubbly.
Make the Dough
In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt. Add the activated yeast mixture and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.
Knead the Dough
Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
First Rise
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Shape the Bread
Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a flat round shape about 1/4 inch thick.
Add Zaatar Topping
In a small bowl, mix zaatar spice blend with olive oil to create a paste. Spread the zaatar mixture generously on top of each dough round.
Second Rise
Let the shaped dough rounds rest for about 30 minutes, covered with a cloth.
Bake the Bread
Preheat the oven to 475°F (245°C). Place the bread on a baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown.
Cool and Serve
Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm!
