Method
Setup & Dispensing
Chill components
Keep carbonated water and any syrup concentrates chilled before mixing. Cold liquids hold carbonation better and reduce foam when dispensing.
Prepare glass
Fill a 16‑oz serving glass about three quarters full (approximately 1.5 cups) with crushed or cubed ice.
Select base
Decide which fountain flavor you want to serve (cola, lemon‑lime, root beer, orange, or a custom mix). Use the corresponding syrup amount below as a guideline for a 16‑oz serving.
Standard Fountain Pour (single-flavor serving)
Measure syrup
For a single flavored 16‑oz serving: pour the appropriate syrup concentrate into the glass—cola 1/2 cup (120 ml), lemon‑lime 1/4 cup (60 ml), root beer 1/4 cup (60 ml) or orange 1/4 cup (60 ml). If using a commercial soda gun or fountain head, the machine will proportion automatically; these volumes are for manual mixing.
Top with carbonated water
Slowly pour 2 cups (about 480 ml) of chilled carbonated water over the syrup into the glass. Tilt the glass slightly and pour gently down the side to minimize foam and preserve carbonation.
Light stir
Gently stir once or twice with a long spoon to combine syrup and carbonated water. Avoid vigorous stirring to retain fizz.
Garnish & serve
Add a maraschino cherry and a lime wedge or orange slice as desired. Serve immediately with a straw.
Custom & Specialty Mixes
Shirley Temple (non-alcoholic)
In the prepared ice-filled glass, add 1 tbs grenadine then pour 2 cups chilled lemon‑lime soda (or carbonated water + 1/4 cup lemon‑lime syrup). Stir gently and garnish with a maraschino cherry and orange slice.
Vanilla Cola Float (single serving)
Add 1/2 cup cola syrup into the ice-filled glass, pour 2 cups chilled carbonated water, then stir gently. Add 1 tsp vanilla syrup and a scoop of vanilla ice cream if desired for a float. Serve with a spoon and straw.
Cherry Limeade Soda
In the glass add 1 tbs grenadine, 1 tsp cherry syrup, and 1 tsp lime juice. Pour 2 cups chilled carbonated water (or lemon‑lime mix) over ice, stir gently, and garnish with a lime wedge.
Root Beer Classic
Pour 1/4 cup root beer syrup over ice then slowly add 2 cups chilled carbonated water. Stir gently and garnish with a maraschino cherry. Optionally add a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a traditional root beer float.
Notes & Tips
Adjust syrup ratio to taste. The listed syrup amounts are starting points for a 16‑oz serving; some concentrates are stronger and will require less syrup (start conservative and add more if needed).
If using a commercial fountain dispensing system, follow the machine’s syrup-to-water calibration instead of the manual measurements. Rinse fountain heads between flavors to avoid cross-contamination.
For diet or low‑sugar versions, substitute diet syrup concentrates or use less syrup and add a few drops of liquid sweetener to taste.
Always pour carbonated water slowly and tilt the glass to preserve carbonation and reduce foaming.
