Bottled and Canned Drinks — To Go

Method

Bottled and Canned Drinks — To Go

1

Selection and service

When a customer orders a bottled drink to go, confirm the exact variety (Coke, Diet Coke, Coke Zero, Dr Pepper, Sprite, Powerade Mountain Berry Blast, Minute Maid Lemonade, Fanta Orange, or Barq's Root Beer). Verify bottle size is 20 oz and clarify that Barq's Root Beer is served in a 20 oz glass bottle with no refill. Repeat the order back to the customer to prevent errors.

2

Retrieve bottle

From the cooler or display, take the correct 20 oz plastic bottle or glass bottle. Check the cap seal to ensure it is closed and not damaged. Confirm the expiration/best‑by date is acceptable and that the label matches the requested drink.

3

Optional pour to‑go

If the customer requests the drink poured into a to‑go cup with ice: place the to‑go cup on a flat surface, add the requested amount of ice (standard: fill cup 1/2 to 3/4 full). Open the bottle and pour in a steady stream to 1/2 inch below the rim to avoid overflow. Cap the cup with lid and insert a straw if requested. Dispose of used bottle cap appropriately (recycle if possible) and hand the filled cup to the customer. Note: If the customer wants Barq's Root Beer poured out of the glass bottle, confirm they understand the bottle itself is not eligible for refill; glass bottle may be included or recycled per store policy.

4

Direct bottle handoff

If the customer prefers the sealed bottle: place the unopened 20 oz bottle upright in a carryout bag. For glass Barq's Root Beer, place upright and secure to prevent tipping. Include a napkin if requested. Do not offer a refill for any bottled drink; inform the customer 'No refills' if they ask.

5

Bagging and final check

Place the bottle or cup into a carryout bag with any requested extras (straw, napkin, condiments). Check that the order matches the receipt. If serving multiple bottles, arrange them upright and cushioned to avoid breakage (use dividers or place between food items). Close the bag and hand to the customer along with payment receipt and any loyalty or coupon items.

6

Temperature and sanitation

Ensure bottled drinks were stored at appropriate chilled temperature (refrigerated). Handle bottles by the body or neck without touching the cap area that the customer will open to maintain sanitation. Sanitize hands or wear gloves per store policy before handling ready‑to‑serve items.

7

Barq's Root Beer glass‑bottle special handling

Because Barq's comes in a 20 oz glass bottle and is nonrefillable, always place it upright in the bag and, if legally required, provide a caution about glass. Do not open or pour unless explicitly requested by the customer; if poured, follow the 'Optional pour to‑go' steps and note that the customer cannot return the bottle for refill.
