Method
Cocktail
Chill glass
Place a martini or coupe glass in the freezer for several minutes or fill with ice water to chill while you prepare the cocktail.
Combine ingredients
Add 2 oz Redemption Rye, 0.75 oz Amaro Averna, 0.25 oz Licor 43, and 2 dashes orange bitters to a mixing glass.
Prepare glass
Discard ice or ice water from your chilled martini/coupe glass and rinse briefly with a splash of fresh water if you used ice water, then discard that rinse.
Garnish & Serve
Express the oils of one orange peel over the drink by holding the peel skin-side down about 3–4 inches above the surface and giving it a firm twist. Then rub the peel around the rim of the glass and drop it into the cocktail or rest it on the rim.
Optionally, drop a cocktail cherry into the glass for an added sweet note and visual contrast.
Serve immediately. The Tan Manhattan is best enjoyed cold and slightly viscous, with the rye backbone complemented by Averna’s herbal bittersweetness and Licor 43’s vanilla-citrus warmth.
