Prepare glass
Select a chilled rocks glass (old fashioned glass). If desired, chill the glass briefly in the freezer or by filling with ice water for a minute, then discard the water.
Add syrup and bitters
Place the prepared rocks glass on a bar towel. Add 1 tablespoon of the cooled turbinado syrup to the glass. Add 3 dashes of Angostura bitters and 2 dashes of orange bitters directly on top of the syrup.
Muddle cherry
Add the filthy black cherry to the glass and gently muddle once or twice to release a little cherry juice and aromatics, but avoid pulverizing the cherry—just enough to combine flavors with the syrup and bitters.
Garnish by dropping the express-juiced orange peel into the glass alongside the muddled filthy black cherry. Serve immediately.
