Cocktail
Chill glass
Place a chilled martini or coupe glass in the freezer 5–10 minutes before mixing, or fill with ice water while you assemble the drink to ensure the glass is very cold.
Prepare lemon twist
Using a vegetable peeler or small sharp knife, cut a 2–3 inch strip of lemon peel without including too much pith. Gently express the oils by holding the peel over the glass and giving it a quick twist, skin-side down, to release the citrus oils. Set the twist aside on a cocktail pick.
Mix
In a mixing glass or cocktail shaker filled about two-thirds with ice, pour 2.5 oz Bombay Dry Gin (or Tito’s Vodka) and 0.5 oz dry vermouth. If you like a faint aromatic lift, add 2 dashes of orange bitters.
Stir (preferred for gin) or shake (for vodka)
If using gin, stir the mixture with a bar spoon for 20–30 seconds until well chilled and slightly diluted. If using vodka and you prefer a colder, slightly more aerated texture, shake vigorously for about 10–12 seconds.
Strain and finish
Discard ice or water from the chilled glass. Double-strain (or fine-strain) the cocktail into the chilled martini glass. Run the lemon twist around the rim for aroma, then either drop it into the drink or thread it onto the cocktail pick and rest it on the glass rim.
Serve
Serve immediately while cold. Provide a small napkin or coaster. Enjoy responsibly.
