Build and stir
Fill an old-fashioned glass (lowball) with large ice cubes or a single large sphere. Pour 1.5 oz Martini Rosso and 1.5 oz Campari over the ice.
Gently stir the vermouth and Campari together for about 10–15 seconds (6–10 slow turns) to chill and lightly dilute the mixture.
Top with approximately 2 oz chilled soda water. Stir once gently (2–3 turns) to incorporate the soda without losing effervescence.
Garnish and serve
Express the oils of an orange twist over the surface by holding the twist over the glass and giving it a quick squeeze, then run the peel around the rim and drop it into the drink (or hang a half wheel on the glass). Serve immediately with a short stirring spoon on the side if desired.
