Method
Marinating Chicken
- 1
Prepare the Marinade
In a bowl, combine the buttermilk, hot sauce, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.
- 2
Marinate the Chicken
Place the chicken tenders in the marinade, ensuring they are fully submerged. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight.
Breading the Chicken
- 3
Prepare the Breading Mixture
In a shallow dish, mix together the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, paprika, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
- 4
Coat the Chicken
Remove the chicken from the marinade, allowing excess to drip off. Dredge each piece in the breading mixture, pressing down to ensure it adheres well.
Frying Chicken
- 5
Heat the Oil
In a deep skillet or fryer, heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C).
- 6
Fry the Chicken
Carefully add the breaded chicken tenders to the hot oil, frying in batches if necessary. Cook for about 5-7 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and drain on paper towels.
Preparing Spicy Oil
- 7
Make the Spicy Oil
In a small saucepan, combine the cayenne pepper, brown sugar, and salt with some of the hot frying oil (about 1/4 cup) and mix well. Brush this mixture generously over the fried chicken.
Serving
- 8
Plate the Dish
Serve the hot chicken on slices of bunny bread. Top with pickles and a side of fries. Drizzle black pepper ranch dressing over the fries as desired.
