Method

Cocktail

1

Add 2 oz bourbon, 1 oz sweet vermouth, 1/4 oz Luxardo maraschino liqueur, 2 dashes orange bitters and 1 dash Angostura bitters into a mixing glass.

2

Fill the mixing glass with plenty of cold ice (enough to come near the top).

3

Stir gently but thoroughly with a bar spoon for 30–45 seconds until the mixture is well chilled and slightly diluted (glass should feel noticeably cold and the liquid slightly viscous).

4

Place a large ice cube in an old-fashioned glass.

5

Strain the chilled cocktail over the large ice cube using a Hawthorne or julep strainer.

Garnish & Finish

6

Express the oil from an orange peel over the surface of the cocktail by holding the peel skin-side down about 3–4 inches above the drink and giving it a quick sharp squeeze. Rub the peel around the glass rim if desired.

7

Drop the expressed orange twist into the glass or rest it on the rim, and add one Luxardo cherry on a pick or directly into the drink.

8

Serve immediately and enjoy responsibly.

Tools

9

Chilling glass (optional)

If you prefer the cocktail colder, place the old-fashioned glass in the freezer for 5–10 minutes or fill it with ice water while you prepare the drink, then discard the ice water before placing the large ice cube in the glass.

Cleaning up

Rinse the mixing glass and spoon promptly to prevent stickiness from vermouth and liqueur; wash utensils after use.
