Smoothie Base

Method

Smoothie Base

  1. 1

    Prepare fruit and liquids

If you didn't already, freeze 1 1/2 cups of banana slices and 1 cup mango chunks for at least 2 hours. Juice a fresh orange until you have 1 cup of orange juice. Measure out the almond milk and Greek yogurt.

  2. 2

    Combine in blender

Add frozen banana, frozen mango, 1 cup fresh orange juice, 1/2 cup Greek yogurt, 1/2 cup almond milk, 1 tablespoon honey or agave, 1/2 teaspoon grated fresh ginger, and 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract into a high-speed blender.

  3. 3

    Adjust texture

Add 3–4 ice cubes if you prefer a thicker, colder smoothie. Secure the lid and blend on high for 45–60 seconds, or until completely smooth and creamy. If the mixture is too thick, add 1–2 tablespoons more almond milk; if too thin, add another small handful of frozen banana or one more ice cube and re-blend.

Boosters & Garnish

  1. 4

Taste the blended smoothie and stir in 1 teaspoon ground chia seeds and 1/2 teaspoon orange zest if using. Blend for 5–10 seconds more or simply stir with a spoon to incorporate the chia without over-blending.

  2. 5

Pour the smoothie into a 16–20 oz glass. Garnish with a fresh mint sprig and an orange slice on the rim. If desired, sprinkle a tiny pinch of additional chia or a dusting of orange zest on top.

  3. 6

Serve immediately with a reusable straw. Stir once before drinking if chia has settled slightly.
