Method

Main - Turkey & Veggie Sandwich

  1. 1

    Prep bread and spread

Lightly spread the butter or light mayonnaise on one side of each slice of whole wheat bread. Place the spread side inward or outward according to child's preference.

  2. 2

    Assemble sandwich

On one slice (spread side up), layer the sliced turkey evenly across the bread. Top with the mild cheddar cheese and arrange the grated carrot and cucumber slices over the cheese so vegetables are distributed.

  3. 3

    Finish and cut

Place the second bread slice on top, spread side down. Press gently to compact. Using a small, safe knife, cut the sandwich into two triangles or three fun shapes (use cookie cutters if available) to make it easy for a 4–6 year old to hold and eat.

Side 1 - Soft Steamed Veggies

  1. 4

    Prepare veggies

Place the broccoli florets and baby carrot coins into a microwave-safe bowl (or small saucepan for stovetop). Add 2 tablespoons water to the bowl.

  2. 5

    Steam until soft

Microwave on high for 60–90 seconds until tender but not mushy. If using stovetop, bring a small saucepan with 1/4 cup water to a simmer, add veggies, cover and steam for 4–5 minutes until tender. Drain any excess water.

  3. 6

    Season and cool

Toss the steamed veggies with 1/2 teaspoon unsalted butter (optional) to add flavor and a little shine. Let cool slightly before serving so they are safe for a child to eat.

Side 2 - Apple Yogurt Dip & Apple Slices

  1. 7

    Slice apple

Core and thinly slice half of a small apple into child-friendly slices. Leave the skin on for fiber if the child can chew it safely. Immediately transfer the apple slices to a small container to keep them separate from the sandwich.

  2. 8

    Make yogurt dip

In a small bowl, mix 2 tablespoons plain yogurt with 1 teaspoon honey and a pinch of ground cinnamon until smooth. Taste to ensure sweetness is mild — reduce honey if needed for younger children.

  3. 9

    Serve apple & dip

Serve the apple slices alongside the yogurt dip for dunking. Keep the dip in a shallow container so dipping is easy and safe for small hands.

Drink

  1. 10

Pour 4 ounces of water into a child-sized cup or spill-proof cup. Serve chilled or at room temperature depending on preference.
