Garlic Butter

Method

Garlic Butter

1

Prepare garlic

Peel and finely mince 4 garlic cloves. If you prefer a milder garlic flavor, mince and then let sit 5–10 minutes to mellow slightly.

2

Soften and mix butter

In a medium bowl, place 1/2 cup softened unsalted butter. Using a fork or spatula, beat until smooth and pliable.

3

Combine ingredients

Add the minced garlic, 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley, 1 tablespoon olive oil, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, and 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan (optional) to the butter. Stir thoroughly until evenly combined. Taste and adjust salt or parsley as desired.

Assemble and Bake

4

Preheat oven

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Position a rack in the center of the oven.

5

Prepare bread

Slice the baguette in half lengthwise to create two flat halves, or slice into 1–1.5 inch diagonal pieces if you prefer individual portions. If desired, brush the cut sides lightly with 1 teaspoon olive oil to help crisping.

6

Spread garlic butter

Evenly spread the prepared garlic butter over the cut sides of the bread, covering to the edges. If using individual slices, spread on each slice. For a cheesier top, sprinkle a little extra grated Parmesan over the buttered surface.

7

Bake

Place the prepared bread on a baking sheet, buttered side up. Bake in the preheated oven for 8–12 minutes, until the butter is melted and the edges start to turn golden. For a crispier, more browned top, switch the oven to broil for 1–2 minutes—watch carefully to avoid burning.

8

Finish and serve

Remove from oven and let rest 1–2 minutes. If you used halves, cut into serving pieces. Sprinkle additional chopped parsley for color, slice, and serve warm.
