Canned Soda (single serving)
Method
Canned Soda (single serving)
Chill components
Ensure carbonated water is well chilled. Keep flavor concentrate, simple syrup, and any optional additives chilled as well to preserve carbonation when combined.
Prepare sweetener and flavor base
Combine the simple syrup (1 tbs) and flavor concentrate (0.5 tsp) in a small cup or measured pourer. If making a cola-style soda, add the caramel color (1 tsp) to this mixture and stir until uniform.
Add acidity and preservatives
Dissolve the citric acid (1 tsp) into the syrup-flavor mixture. If using a preservative such as a sodium benzoate solution, add it now (1 tsp). Stir until everything is dissolved and evenly distributed.
Combine with carbonated water
Place a tall chilled can or glass at an angle and slowly pour the carbonated water (12 fl oz) into it. Very gently add the prepared flavor-syrup mixture down the side so it sinks in without excessive agitation. Stir once gently with a long spoon (one slow up-and-down stir) to combine without flattening the carbonation.
Finalize and serve
Add ice if desired (4 cubes) and garnish with a lemon or lime wedge. Serve immediately to retain maximum fizz. If packaging as a canned product, follow appropriate food-safety procedures and carbonation/filling protocols using commercial equipment — the above method describes single-serving, immediate consumption.
